We Received the Keys to the New Cafe Space

This is a big step toward making our dream of creating the first-ever cafe—and a welcoming gathering space—in the Sunnydale neighborhood of San Francisco: The developer Mercy Housing has given us the keys to the space!

That milestone marks the end of construction of the outer shell of the building and the roughing out of the cafe space. What comes next are architect drawings, which will aid in the permitting and construction process. We’ll be working with architects from woman-owned firm Milieu of Oakland. Milieu was selected by the developer and will be providing architect services for all of the retail spaces in the new Nia Building, currently under construction at 1500 Sunnydale Ave.

Much more will happen before we’re ready to open, including a full build-out of the interior of the space, including installation of equipment, millwork and fixtures. As they say, things are about to get real. And we couldn’t be more pleased.

We couldn’t do this without you, and we sincerely hope you’ll support us on our continued journey toward making Bold City Cafe a reality. If you’ve donated to our GoFundMe to help us acquire the cafe equipment we need, thank you. And if you are able to make an additional donation, that will help us further our mission: to create jobs, fund scholarships, and provide a great space where neighbors can meet with neighbors, kids can stop by after school, and we can all celebrate the future of this high-potential neighborhood.

Other ways you can help:

Buy a bag of Bold City Coffee — or better yet, subscribe to receive monthly deliveries of Bold City Coffee right to your door (and enjoy free shipping). Every bag of coffee you buy gets us closer to making Bold City Cafe a reality. And it helps us provide scholarships to local youth.

Not a coffee drinker? We offer a variety of merchandise — from T-shirts to hats, mugs, hoodies, gift cards, and more.

It takes a community to make big things happen. Together, we can create a bold city for all.
