New Café to Bring More Than Just Coffee to a SF Neighborhood in Transition
SAN FRANCISCO, CA—April 22, 2025—A fresh brew of hope is coming to Sunnydale. Bold City Coffee Company is thrilled to announce its new café space in the highly anticipated Mercy Housing development in the Sunnydale/Visitacion Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Set to open later this year, Bold City Coffee Café will be much more than a place to grab a cup of coffee—it will be the neighborhood's first coffee shop and a vibrant community hub where connections are made, and dreams take root.
The development at 1533 Sunnydale Ave. is part of HOPE SF, a public-private partnership dedicated to anti-displacement efforts and revitalizing public housing communities. For Bold City Coffee, the mission goes hand-in-hand with its purpose.
“This café is about more than coffee. It’s about creating a place where neighbors can gather, where kids can do homework, and where the community can feel safe and welcome,” said Bold City Coffee CEO Sonya Brunswick. As Senior Pastor of Greater Life Church, which owns Bold City Coffee, Brunswick's roots run deep in Sunnydale.
“I grew up in this neighborhood. Our congregation serves here. We’re not just opening a café; we’re creating a space that reflects the heart and spirit of Sunnydale,” Brunswick added. “San Francisco is only as strong as its neighborhoods. We want to help build a bold city for all of us.”
